About Us
Dr Izak Joubert began Travelsafe Clinics while the Chief Superintendant of the Rietfontein Tropical Disease Hospital in Gauteng in the late 1990's.
The rationale behind the project was that prevention was better than cure. So, while the hospital specialized in treating patients already infected with (mostly) tropical diseases, the sideline clinic would hopefully prevent some travelers from becoming infected and thus never require hospitalization.
The state-run hospital was not geared for a larger scale commercial venture and so Dr Joubert moved the operation to Bryanston, Sandton and later also included Sunnyside, Pretoria.
By the end of 1999 the Gauteng clinics were handed over to new operators and Dr Joubert concentrated on the opening of new branches in Cape Town.
Today the clinic is in Somerset West (for Winelands and Overberg travellers).
